About the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity

Academy Awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognized the work of Chuck Jones four times during his life:

  • For Scent-imental Reasons (1949), featuring Pepé Le Pew. “You know, it is possible to be too attractive!”
  • So Much for So Little (1949). Animated short promoting public health and safety programs.
  • The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Higher Mathematics (1965), from Norton Juster’s book of the same name. (Juster is also the author of The Phantom Tollbooth, later immortalized in animated form by Jones.) “To the vector belong the spoils.”
  • Honorary Academy Award®, 1996, for “the creation of classic cartoons and cartoon characters whose animated lives have brought joy to our real ones for more than half a century.”
